Madelyn Pearson

Dear Colleagues,

It’s heartwarming to see the special efforts that staff organize this time of year to benefit various nonprofit organizations and to support individuals and families, including patients and colleagues, who need assistance.

In Nursing and Patient Care Services, acts of kindness and giving happen every day as we care for patients and their loved ones. One of the most wonderful parts of my day is reading messages of gratitude from patients and families about the difference staff members made for them during their time in the hospital.

The DAISY Award shines a light on some of the specific ways nurses go above and beyond for their patients and families, and you’ll read more in this issue of Heart & Science about the compassion of recent award recipients.

The desire to contribute to our local, national and international community is also year-round, and this issue highlights three staff members in Nursing and Patient Care Services who do this in different ways.

I am grateful to be part of such a caring community at the Brigham, and I want to express my deepest gratitude for all that you do each day on behalf of your patients, their families, your colleagues and your communities.

Best wishes for a healthy and joyous holiday season to you and your loved ones.

With warm regards,
