Dear Colleagues

Lisa Morrissey
It has been my privilege and honor to serve you, and our patients and families, as your interim chief nursing officer and senior vice president for Patient Care Services. In this role, I have had the opportunity to personally meet many colleagues across nursing and Patient Care Services and to observe, up close, the remarkable work that you do every day.
This issue of Heart & Science highlights our 2017 Essence of Nursing Award recipient Andrew Bober, BSN, RN, and honorees: Susan Gabriel, BSN, RN, CCRN; Siobhan Raftery, BSN, RN, CNRN; Josette Renda, BSN, RN; and Tracey Slaven, BSN, RN. The practice of these extraordinary nurses strengthens our community and makes us all proud to be BWH nurses.
I am grateful to these Essence nurses for their example in advancing nursing practice and patient care, and to all who serve as examples of who we aspire to be. I thank each one of you who offered your support to me in advancing our work. The connections that each one of us makes with our patients and their families, each other, our interprofessional colleagues, ourselves and our communities strengthens us as individuals and as a community of caregivers.
Next month, we will welcome our new chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services, Madelyn (Maddy) Pearson, MSN, MA, RN, NEA-BC. We look forward to working with her as we continue our journey toward Magnet designation. Maddy is excited to join the Brigham family, and I know you will be as welcoming and helpful to her as you have been to me.
With sincere appreciation and gratitude,
Lisa Morrissey, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC
Interim Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services
