After more than two years of planning, educating and preparing for the clinical transformation that would arrive with the implementation of an electronic health record (EHR), Go Live finally arrived on May 30th, 2015!

Congratulations to everyone who worked so very hard to ensure that we successfully incorporated this new tool into our everyday practice, while providing excellent care to our patients and families.

The transition to this tool required all caregivers and support staff to change many of the workflows that we were so accustomed to using. This understandably caused a bit of angst and sometimes frustration while we became proficient with the tool.

We heard nurses and clinicians describe feeling “like a novice again” and in many ways, we did become “novice documenters.” Now, more than sixty days out from Go Live, we are still learning from each other how to use the system as we experience many its benefits.

It will take time to adjust to a transformation this large and ongoing efforts to enhance the system’s functionality continue to improve the ways in which we interact with it.  As long as we continue to support and learn from each other, we will continue the successful journey we are on.
