Susan W. Hunnewell Professional Development Award: Excellence

Alexis Gallotto received the Susan W. Hunnewell Professional Development Award for excellence.
Throughout her high school and college years, Alexis Gallotto, BSN, RN, sought to participate in many different clubs, organizations and opportunities — experiences that shaped her interests and who she has become as a person and a nurse.
“Through these different positions, I have been able to express my passion for the arts, science and humanities,” said Gallotto, who works on Braunwald Tower 4BC/7C, Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant. “Thus far in my career, I have intertwined these interests into my nursing practice by exploring innovative research studies and implementing emerging clinical practices.”
Gallotto embraces opportunities to contribute to quality improvement on her unit, including taking on the role of falls champion.
“Alexis has worked diligently to improve patient safety and enhance the overall quality of care,” said Chiarina Williams, MSN, FNP-C, OCN, nursing director of Braunwald Tower 4BC/7C. “Her passion for patient care is evident in her proactive approach and her ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to drive meaningful improvements.”
Gallotto also joined the falls committee and unit-based practice council and has made many contributions in a short time.
“Alexis is always willing to lend her ideas and energy, and she approaches every challenge with a collaborative spirit,” said Williams. “Her creativity shines through in her efforts to personalize and enhance our unit-based quality boards, ensuring they are not only informative but also engaging for the entire team. Alexis is constantly thinking outside the box, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative solutions that benefit both her colleagues and the patients we care for.”
Gallotto noted that she also finds ways to incorporate art into her practice by making motivational boards for patients, as well as birthday banners and holiday decorations. “Being an oncology nurse entails taking care of patients who are at their worst on any given day, including holidays and birthdays,” she said. “Incorporating art into my nursing practice is a way of showing empathy and compassion.”
