Braunwald Tower 16AB Recognized with Beacon Award for Excellence

In July, Braunwald Tower 16AB, General Medicine, received a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
The Beacon Award recognizes units for exceptional patient care and dedication to improving patient outcomes. According to the AACN, recipients provide evidence-based care with a steadfast commitment to a healthy work environment and patient and staff satisfaction.
Kathryn McMahon, MSN, RN, one of the authors of the application, shared: “We are so thrilled to receive the AACN Silver Beacon Award for 16AB! This award is a great reflection of the excellent evidenced-based nursing care we provide. It feels amazing to be recognized for the care we provide to our patients every day and the strong teamwork among our staff on 16AB.”
AACN reviewers highlighted multiple strengths for Tower 16AB, including well-defined roles, teamwork and collaboration; frequent and open, two-way communication; recognition programs; and quality improvement efforts. Reviewers commented on how unit leaders and staff demonstrate their commitment to providing safe, high-quality patient care by actively identifying areas for improvement and collaborating on solutions to enhance patient care and nursing practice.
Reviewers noted in their report: “To support the mission and vision of the hospital, this unit focuses on collaboration with the different members of the multidisciplinary team. Unit staff also supports the acquisition of knowledge and excellence. Compassion is exemplified through the relationship-based care with the patients and families receiving care on 16AB.”
