Katie Fillipon

Katie Fillipon, MS, RN, OCN, FNP, associate chief nursing officer for Oncology and Medicine, has been appointed to the newly created position of deputy chief nursing officer and vice president of Nursing.

Fillipon, who will continue to serve as ACNO for Oncology and Medicine, will oversee daily operations for the Department of Nursing as deputy CNO. She will work closely with Maddy Pearson, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Clinical Services, and other senior leaders on strategic planning for the development of innovative, high-quality clinical programs.

Fillipon will also partner with associate chief medical officers, administrators, medical directors, clinicians and staff to advance operations related to the delivery of high-quality care throughout the Brigham, including co-leading the Inpatient and Emergency Committee.

“I have every confidence that Katie will be successful in this key role with her years of clinical and leadership experience and deep understanding of the needs of staff, patients and their families,” said Pearson. “She will ensure that we offer a practice environment that enables every nurse to grow professionally and provide the highest quality care in partnership with our interprofessional colleagues.”

Fillipon has worked at the Brigham for her entire career, starting as a student on Braunwald Tower 5B. “I was drawn to the Brigham in nursing school because I felt the care was different from other organizations where I completed clinical rotations,” said Fillipon. “With every role I’ve had since then, I hope that I have been able to help nurses and our interprofessional colleagues continue providing the expert, compassionate care that is unique to the Brigham.”

Fillipon said that she is excited about the the opportunity to become more deeply involved in the daily operations of the entire Department of Nursing and to collaborate with the Brigham Health leadership team and interprofessional colleagues. “I look forward to being part of the larger vision of where we want to head as a department and working jointly with physicians, administrators and other interprofessional colleagues to achieve that vision in a unified way,” she said.

Since joining the Brigham, Fillipon has held roles as a clinical nurse, nurse educator, nursing director and associate chief nurse. She is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing.
