Dear Colleagues,

The depth and breadth of knowledge of our nurses and Patient Care Services staff is truly remarkable. With an unwavering commitment to improving patient care and advancing the practice of nursing, staff are working in many different ways to achieve our vision of a healthier world.

You’ll see evidence of this throughout the pages of this issue of Heart & Science. From warmly welcoming a delegation of Korean nurses to the Brigham, to sharing how we improved care for patients undergoing radical cystectomy to publishing a book that will enhance nurses’ knowledge about forensic nursing, our staff have made tremendous contributions.

Also, thanks to the leadership of staff and the engagement of a multidisciplinary team, the Brigham received Baby-Friendly Hospital designation last month. The designation recognizes our exceptional evidence-based, patient-centered care and education around infant feeding practices.

The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative was launched by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund. We are proud to officially join approximately 550 Baby-Friendly Hospitals nationwide in leading the way to ensure that mothers receive the information and support they need to safely and successfully meet their infant’s nutritional needs, whether that means breastfeeding, formula feeding or a combination of the two.

These are just a few recent highlights of the exemplary professional practice, scholarship and leadership of our staff. Thank you for your outstanding efforts in every area of our mission.
