Continuing their legacy of leadership in health equity and social and racial justice, the Brigham’s community health centers hold weekly silent vigils with participation from staff, their families and members of the community. For eight minutes and 46 seconds, participants at Brookside Community Health Center and Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center kneel, stand or raise their right fist, and hold signs for Black Lives Matter and other social justice messages.

“Before we kneel, people are invited to speak, whether it be from the heart, a poem, anything,” said Meg Cole, MBA, BSN, RN, nursing director of Brookside. “We kneel on Washington Street at our location in Jamaica Plain. Many community members drive by, honking their horns and putting their fists out the window. Neighbors and community members have also joined us. It is quite moving and powerful.”
