The countdown is on!

We are about to transform the health of those we serve with the launch of an integrated electronic health record—Partners eCare (PeC).

I have already witnessed positive impacts as we prepare for Day 1. The Nursing Practice Council on Shapiro 8, embracing the positive patient safety outcomes related to standardized patient handoffs, has implemented the handoff bundle IPASS (Illness severity, Patient summary, Action list, Situation awareness and contingency plan, Synthesis by receiver) and “Hi/Goodbye” to structure their inter-shift report.

Wanting to maintain their high patient satisfaction scores and mitigate risks related to IV infusions during the transition to PeC, Shapiro 8 nurses who are leaving say good-bye to their patients as they introduce the oncoming nurse  and review infusions (“follow the line, one at a time”) in the room with the patient. And this is just the beginning.

The creativity and energy you have all put forth to embrace PeC has been inspiring. So in those first few days when we are dealing with the bumps and hiccups of our new system, let’s be there for each other and remind ourselves why we are doing this—to advance the health of those we serve through seamless access to their health information across the continuum. In other words, to know our patients and ensure they feel known by their clinicians. This is a most exciting time to be a BWH clinician and patient!
